Simplifying GST Registration Amendments: A Guide

Rule 12 and Form GST REG 14 make it easier for the users to update the wrongly entered or missing data from the GST registration online form, as and when required. The applicants of GST online registration can correct some information without the approval of the authority, while other particulars require approval.

Types of Amendments in GST registration:

The amendment in the online GST registration form can be categorized into the following three types:

• Amendment in the core fields like the legal name of the business, the address of the principal place of business, and any additional place of business, etc., requires prior approval. The approval from a proper office takes 15 days.
• The non-core fields can be edited without any approval. These fields include all the fields except those which are not covered under the non-core field.
• Changing the email or mobile number can be done by verifying the same with the OTP (One-Time Password) received.

How to change the Core Fields?

Follow the steps mentioned below to amend the core fields:

• Go to gst.gov.in and log in with your credentials.
• Select Services > Registration > Amendment Of Registration Core Fields.
• The Business Details tab appears by default, followed by the Principal Place of Business, Additional Places of Business, Promoter / Partners, and Verification Tabs. Visit each tab, select the Edit icon corresponding to each field that is to be changed, and save.

An acknowledgment message will be received automatically in the registered Email and mobile number after the modification in GST registration is done. Next, the application will be approved or rejected by a tax authority and accordingly, a message will be sent via SMS and email.

How to change the Non-core Fields?

Follow the steps mentioned below to amend the non-core fields:

• From the GST home page, select Services > Registration > Amendment Of Registration Non-Core Fields.
• Following this, the non-core fields will be displayed in editable mode. Go to the respective tab and select the Edit icon corresponding to the respective fields. Finally, make the necessary changes and save.

Once the amendment in the online GST registration process is saved successfully, an acknowledgment message is sent to the registered Email and mobile number automatically within the next 15 minutes. The modification will be done in the non-core fields without any approval from the Tax Official.
